Marilyn Meyer, 3rd grade teacher--trading in school kids for grandkids
Greetings! My name is Marilyn Meyer and I am a third grade teacher at Pioneer Elementary. I grew up in the Pierz area on a farm near the village of Harding. You could say I’m a local, since I attended Harding Elementary School and Pierz Healy HIgh School. I would have to say that my love for children and also babysitting a lot when I was young, led me to becoming an educator.
I attended college at St. Cloud State University. I began my teaching career in private schools. My very first job was at St. Joseph’s School in Pierz, followed by Mary of Lourdes School in Little Falls. I taught a variety of grades - 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. I have presently been teaching at Pioneer Elementary for 20 years, and I have enjoyed each and every year. Every school year provides new challenges and opportunities to grow as an educator. The staff and students I have worked with over the years have made my job a pleasure to come to each day.
I continue to live in the Pierz area on my husband’s 3rd generation family farm. David and I have been married for nearly 40 years. We have 4 adult children: Amanda, Joe, Kelsey, and Michael; 2 in-laws: Garth and Antonya; and 6 grandchildren: Maya, Reese, Easton, Hudson, Dylann, and Libbie.
It was not an easy decision for me, but I have decided to retire from full-time teaching at the end of this school year. I plan to fill my days with providing daycare for my grandchildren a couple days of the week and perhaps some substitute teaching. I also will be enjoying my favorite hobbies of taking walks, playing tennis, reading, cooking, and traveling.

"Marilyn is a consummate professional who has dedicated herself to the children and families of Pioneer Elementary School for 20 years. For the past several years she has continued to grow as a professional always open to better ways of designing her craft of teaching. She has worked alongside her 3rd grade team to constantly improve instructional strategies based on current information gathered about her students. Marilyn's consistency of daily commitment to children makes her a pillar of our Pioneer family. Her daily presence in this building for both staff and students will certainly be missed."--Principal, Tom Otte
