Kelly Pohlkamp--Media Assistant, Pioneer Elementary

I am Kelly Pohlkamp, and I work in the media center at Pioneer Elementary. I enjoy the day to day contact with the students….whether it be in the computer lab and seeing their excitement as they work through puzzles in coding and the Break Out EDU Escape games or in the library and helping them find a book that they will enjoy and is a good fit for them.
I attended Pierz Healy High School (go class of ‘82!) and was a member of OEA (Office Education Association), a flutist in Band, Student Council, Drama and a cheerleader for Football, Basketball and Wrestling.
After graduation, I went to school for Interior Design and Architectural Drafting. Although I no longer work in that area, I still love to read about and shop for home décor.
When my children, Zachary and Alexandra were young, I started spending time volunteering in their classrooms. Over the years, that turned into subbing and then a job as a paraprofessional in the classroom. About 10 years ago I took a position in the Computer Lab/Media Center and have been here ever since!
Over the years, there have been a lot of changes in the schools. I would say the biggest change would be building and locating the elementary school in Pierz. I think back to the long commutes the children had to attend the public school in Harding. It is wonderful to see the growth of our school both in numbers and education. Technology has advanced so much from my school years…it is wonderful to see that our small community is able to keep our children up to date with the times of the Technology Era!
"Kelly is always willing to pitch in wherever there is a need and brings a highly contagious and positive demeanor to our school. Her flexibility and willingness to do whatever is needed on behalf of students and Pioneer Elementary is remarkable. Kelly is a person colleagues look to for direction and support. She brings a level of comfort, knowledge, understanding, and vision to our staff and our school that allows us to always look for continuing ways to improve." --Tom Otte
When I’m not working with students at the school, I enjoy reading, crafting and shopping with friends. I especially love my family time whether going to sporting events or just hanging out. I enjoy vegetable and flower gardening in the summertime.
We are all so blessed here in Pierz. I definitely feel that we are an extended family working together to make the lives of those around us better. It is so wonderful to come to work and be with people who love their jobs and the children they work with.
