George Weber, Superintendent

George Weber was hired in 2002 by the Pierz School Board to serve as the District Superintendent. George is one of ten children born to Leo and Rosetta Weber who all were raised in Pierz. After going to St. Joseph’s Grade School and Healy High School, he went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. He has a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from St. Cloud State University and then did Doctoral work at St. Mary’s University with an emphasis on Leadership. George and Marge have three sons, Breck, Michael and Aaron. Breck and Michael graduated from Pierz in 2009 and Aaron graduated from Pierz in 2016. The family and the children were very involved in school activities, sports, music, theater and a variety of community activities.
Prior to coming to Pierz, Mr. Weber spent thirteen years on the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation where he developed and managed a complete Childcare through Adult Education System including two schools and three community centers in outlying communities. In 1993 he was appointed as the first Superintendent for the Mille Lacs Band and then led the design and construction of the schools that still exist today. He was charged with all staff hiring, building the curriculum and putting together a complete PreK-12 school system where none existed.
One example of some of the creative projects included getting funding for a multi-year Artist in Residency Project where artist Craig David spent two years at Mille Lacs working with students to build a complete wall mural made up of ceramic tiles that were broken into pieces and then grouted into the circular wall in the entry way. The project received statewide awards and recognition. (attach link)
Some other highlights of his work at Mille Lacs include:
-In 1998 was appointed through Clinton/Gore Administration National Performance Review team to find solutions to technology access and infrastructure throughout the remote American Indian Reservations of Western United States.
-Sought out higher education partners and grant sources to develop and then implement a Masters Degree program delivered on site at Mille Lacs that all employees in any branch of tribal government had access to at very reduced cost.
-From 1999 to 2001 worked through Fox Consulting to design and implement a complete performance pay system used by all employees in the preschool and school systems.
-Developed and led an Elder Advisory Board that met monthly to assist in the design and guidance of Native Language and Culture programs in the school systems.
-Was appointed by Chief Marge Anderson to serve as a writer for a Minnesota Department of Education Project to develop K-12 American Indian Learner Outcomes Projects and Lessons that were then published and delivered to every school district in Minnesota.
Please feel free to call any time to seek further information about our schools. We are proud to show
them off and proud of the support our community has in our schools.
Sincerely,
George Weber
District 484 Superintendent of Schools
