A letter from the District Nurse:
Hello Parents! I can't tell you how excited I am to have students fill these empty hallways again! Please know that we have been working tirelessly to ensure your child's health and safety is protected when they walk through those doors for the first time since March! I wanted to provide some updated information regarding some of the new changes we'll have here at school due to COVID-19. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Screening Guidelines - You will be required to screen your children for COVID symptoms each morning before putting them on the bus, or dropping them off at school. Please use the screening tool (which can be found on our website, and in this newsletter). We want to ensure that any child who is ill stays home from school. If your child has a fever over 100.0, new or changing cough or shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell please keep your child home. If your child has 2 of the following symptoms, please keep them home; fatigue, muscle or body aches, sore throat, headache, runny nose or congestion. In addition, if your child has been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, or another family member has COVID symptoms please keep them home. You will follow the same procedure for calling your child in absent, however, I do ask that you leave their symptoms on the absentee voicemail, and let me know as well. I will follow up with you.
Medication Changes - We will be asking that any student who needs medication before school takes that medication at home. We are doing our best to keep as many healthy children in their classrooms, and out of the school clinics as possible.
Mask requirements - Everyone is required to wear a mask at school - there are exceptions for very young children, and those with medical conditions. I would encourage you to have a few cloth masks for each of your children (maybe an extra in their backpack), and practice wearing them before school begins. Masks should fit well - no gaps on the top, bottom or sides, but not too tight. If your child is going to wear an athletic gaiter - it will need to be doubled. Please avoid wearing masks with vents.
Mask accommodation - if your child can not wear a mask due to medical reasons, the school will need documentation of accommodation by your child's medical provider. Children who can not tolerate masks will be asked to wear an approved face shield.
Exclusion Guidelines - guidelines change frequently, and at school we will follow the most current exclusion criteria set forth by the Minnesota Department of Health, and CDC. Exclusion guidance can be found on our website.

Immunization Requirements
Minnesota law mandates that children enrolled in a school program be current with specific immunizations, or provide a legal exemption to the school. Failure to comply with immunization requirements or provide exemption documentation may result in exclusion from school. View the Immunization Requirements form below to see if your child is up to date. If you have any questions regarding your child's immunization status, please contact the school nurse's office. Immunization Requirements Immunization Exemption Form Medications in School Over-the-Counter (OTC) and prescription medication may be administered at school. Per district policy the following documentation must be provided before any medications may be administered. 1. OTC authorization completed and signed by the parent for any non-prescription medication administered during school hours. Over the Counter Medication Form 2. Prescription authorization completed by and signed by the health care provider and parent for any prescription medication administered during school hours. Prescription Medication Form 3. Medications must come in the original container, and must not be expired. It is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to provide the medication to the school. Medications will be administered out of the school health office by designated, trained staff. Are you new to our district? Do you have young children not yet enrolled in our school? It is important that we have your family's information on file so we can stay in touch about your child's education. We partner with Mid-State Education District to provide Early Childhood Screenings. If your child has not been screened, please contact Beka Swisher at 320-631-2509. SMART SNACKS! The Alliance for a Healthier Generation provides a smart snack calculator on their website to help students and parents determine if the snacks they are eating are considered healthy. |
