Mr. Paulson
Welcome to my classroom! I am excited to begin another year as a Healy High School English teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. This year I will be teaching English 8, Metier 8, and one college course, Composition 1, in tandem with Central Lakes College.

Curriculum
English 8: English 8 includes multiple novel units, including the use of Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich, Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, and The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. Students will use these texts and others to better understand the concepts of characterization and motivation among others. Additionally, this course traditionally introduces students to the procedures for argumentation in the form of debate. CLC College Composition I: College composition is available to qualifying students to prepare for the rigor of writing college-level essays. The course will also incorporate a study of literature to model the quality of superior writing and to allow students to engage in a collegiate-level Socratic seminar discussion with the content. Vocabulary, grammar, and usage will be reviewed as will proper citation of sources. Metier 8 The Metier program is a grade 5-8 experiential learning and lifestyle design program built around activities that guide students to find the truest, happiest, and greatest versions of themselves and the career fields that makes them come alive. |
