Collette Loch, 7th Grade English/Language Arts and Outdoor Enthusiast

Hi there! My name is Collette Loch, and I teach 7th grade English Language Arts here at Pierz Healy High School. I also coach the Speech team. I grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota and Graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School.
While in high school, I actively participated in theater, the speech team, and the school newspaper. My love for performing and public speaking inspired me to attend St. Cloud State University for Mass Communications: Broadcasting. For three years, I studied broadcast journalism and was the Hollywood Gossip host on the school TV station, UTVS.
During my summers, I worked at Deep Portage Learning Center as an environmental educator and Firearm Safety instructor. Through this experience of instructing young adults in wilderness survival and hunting laws and ethics, I found a passion and love for education. As a result of this new enthusiasm for working with kids, combined with the incessant prodding of my coworkers at Deep Portage, I ultimately ended up changing majors to Secondary Education. At the time, I knew instantly that I had made the right decision, and now I am doing something I honestly feel I am born to do!
When I am not teaching, you can usually find me drinking coffee, exploring outside, (hiking, camping, etc.) reading a book (currently reading Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper,) or going to live events. One of my goals in life is to attend as many concerts as possible, especially for artists who are getting “up there” in age and might not be touring for much longer (I am currently looking forward to seeing Cher with my mom in May!)
I will forever be grateful for the opportunity I have been given here as a Pierz Pioneer! Although this is only my second year, I already feel at home. I could not have asked for a better beginning to my teaching career, and it is 100% due to the incredible staff, supportive community, and inspiring students I get to work with every day!
