Officially formed in 1966 as the Office Education Association (OEA), Business Professionals of America (BPA) has a strong history as a student organization that contributes to the preparation of global professionals through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills for students at the Middle, Secondary and Post-secondary levels.
For over 50 years, BPA has served as an innovator in Career and Technical Education, providing its members with opportunities for growth through education, competition,
community service and personal development.
What do BPA members do?
The Workplace Skills Assessment Program is an integral part of Business Professionals of
America. The goal of the program is to provide all business students with the opportunity to demonstrate workplace skills learned through business education curricula. Students prepare for and compete in contests in over 90 categories, under five Assessment Areas including:
1. Finance
2. Business Administration
3. Management Information Systems
4. Digital Communication & Design
5. Management, Marketing & Communication.

What is the purpose of the Assessment Program?
Through this program, students will be able to:
o Demonstrate occupational competencies
o Broaden knowledge, skills, and attitudes
o Expand leadership and human relation skills
o Demonstrate a competitive spirit
o Receive recognition
What is the size of this organization?
With 45,000 members in over 1,800 chapters across 25 states and Puerto Rico, BPA is a co-curricular organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering co-curricular exercises based on national standards. Locally, the Pierz chapter is growing at this time and we would welcome new members.
I want to find out more and possibly join the Pierz Chapter. What should I do?
Students in grades 9 through 12 who are interested in any of the five areas listed above, are encouraged to attend an information session scheduled later this spring. Watch the school announcements for the date and time or talk to one of the current BPA members: Kami Athman, Zach Becker, Adam Funk, Simon Kroll, Charles Pekar, Landon Schomer, Katelyn Smude or Calvin Zapzalka. You can also stop in and talk to the BPA Advisor and Career Advisor, Mrs. Pohlkamp.
