Ms. Becki Schmidt, Math Teacher at Healy--book lover, travel and sports buff, and painter

Greetings! My name is Becki Schmidt and this is my second year here at Pierz, and 17th year of teaching total. I am currently teaching 7th and 8th graders math as well as Metier to 7th graders. When I am not in my classroom teaching, I can be found working with the MHS students as one of the co-advisor, being a part of the AVID team, working with the instructional coach team, as well as working with students. As a teacher, I strive to make sure that I can provide the best instruction for all of my students each day as well as get to know them as individuals outside of my classroom.
While I am originally from Washington State, Pierz isn’t a new town for me. After moving around a few times, my family ended up in Rockford, Minnesota where we played Pierz in sports, as well as we would drive through town on the way to the lake. After high school, I knew I wanted to be a teacher so I headed to Bemidji State University where I got my degree in teaching in 2003. After teaching for 13 years, I went back and got a masters degree in education from St. Mary’s University.
I can honestly say that I love my job! I love working with the community of Pierz, the students in the district, and my amazing coworkers! It really is like a family here. My passion for teaching students still is as strong as it was in my first year of teaching. The best part about my job is being able to work with the students. Seeing that progress where students are growing is awesome! One of my goals is to always have students feel safe and to be able to learn in a way that is best for them. I love being able to support them as students.
Anybody that knows me, knows that family is such an important part of my life. My family includes my parents, my sister, Amy, and my brother, Kyle and his wife Sara. I also have two amazing little nephews, Luke and Trevor, that fill my heart! When I am not at work, I really enjoy spending time with family. If Matt and I are not with family, then you can find us out on a lake, traveling to many different spots throughout the states, watching one of the many Minnesota sport teams play, or at the movies. I really enjoy listening to live music, reading a great book, painting homes, and trying new things. I have two mottos that I try to live by each day. The first is to always look to the positive side of things. The second one is to always try something new, even if you are afraid.
